First phase of truce took effect on Jan. 19, suspending Israel's genocidal war that has killed more than 47,000

Two Palestinians were killed and others injured on Thursday in Israeli attacks in the southern and central Gaza Strip despite a ceasefire agreement.

Casualties occurred in an Israeli artillery strike targeting a house in the Tel Al-Sultan neighborhood in western Rafah, southern Gaza, a medical source told Anadolu.

The neighborhood is designated a "safe" area under the deal between Israel and Hamas, allowing Palestinians to return.

Another medical source said an injured Palestinian was transferred to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza after being shot by Israeli forces stationed in the eastern areas of the Al-Bureij refugee camp.

The first phase of the Gaza truce took effect Jan. 19, suspending Israel's genocidal war that has killed more than 47,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, since Oct. 7, 2023.

The three-phase agreement includes a prisoner exchange and sustained calm, aiming for a permanent truce and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.

The Israeli onslaught has left Gaza in ruins, and its residents displaced, hungry and prone to disease.

The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants in November last year for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
