Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and U.S. President Donald Trump discussed recent developments in Syria, bilateral ties and a summit in Russia's Sochi during a phone call on Friday, Turkey's presidential sources said.
Erdoğan said in a tweet that his call with Trump was "fruitful."
President Trump earlier said he would speak to Erdoğan later Friday.
“Will be speaking to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey this morning about bringing peace to the mess that I inherited in the Middle East,” he tweeted, in an apparent reference to the Obama administration.
“I will get it all done, but what a mistake, in lives and dollars (6 trillion), to be there in the first place!”
The tweet was sent at 7.04 a.m. Washington time (1204GMT).
During the meeting held in Russia's Sochi, President Erdoğan, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani agreed on gathering a congress of Syrian groups to advance a political solution for the war-torn nation.
