Hundreds join rally organized by Palestine Foundation Pakistan in Karachi

Hundreds took part in a bicycle rally in southern port city of Karachi on Friday to mark the International Solidarity Day with the Palestinian People.

The day is observed across the world every year in line with a United Nations General Assembly resolution that called in 1977 for observing Nov. 29 as the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.

The rally -- called Ride for Palestine -- was organized by Palestine Foundation Pakistan (PFP) - an umbrella of several political and religious parties.

Around 60 cyclists began their journey from Shahrah-e-Faisal -- the city’s main highway-- and culminated at the Karachi Press Club.

Apart from cyclists, activists and leaders of different political and religious parties, including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Pakistan Peoples Party, Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz), Jamaat-e-Islami and Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen, also took part in the rally.

Addressing the rally, the PFP Secretary-General Sabir Karbalai said the event was organized to reaffirm the commitment of Pakistanis to upholding the Palestinians’ rights.

“We are here to assure you (Palestinians) that we will never let you alone in your just struggle for your fundamental rights,” Karbalai said.

Condemning the recent statement of U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo declaring the Israeli settlements of occupied Palestinian land legal, Karbalai said that Washington’s unjust and uncalled policies towards Palestinians were the actual hindrance in the way to peace in the Middle East.
