A demonstration was held in Paris demanding that governments open borders to asylum seekers and protesters were seen holding up 'refugees are welcome' banners.
A similar demonstration that was held in November last year in Paris's Stalingrad Square attracted a crowd of at least 500 who then marched towards the Saint-Lazare train station in a show of support for refugees.
