Turkish websites have been under a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack since 14 December. Access to as many as 400,000 Turkish websites has been disabled after the series of attacks.
In this period, Turkey suffered an attack which hit 40 Gbps size.
According to experts speaking to Yeni Şafak daily newspaper, an attack of this size means a "declaration of war."
The research conducted by Yeni Şafak daily newspaper showed that an attack such as the latest could most likely be conducted by a state or with support of a state.
The main suspect in the attack is Russia, which increased tension with extensive economic sanctions against Turkey over the downing of an SU-24 in November.
The suspicion gained strength with the statement of the hacker group Anonymous, which claimed responsibility for the attacks but they added that their campaign was against Turkey, which downed Russian jet.
Also, experts indicates the impossibility of Anonymous to organize as big an attack as the recent one on their own without support from a state.
The coordination between the Middle East Technical University (METU), National Cyber Response Centre within Telecommunications Directorate (TİB),Information Technologies and Communication Institution (BTK) and the telecommunications company Turk Telekom should be increased to fight against possible attacks on state websites more effectively, according to experts.
