A university professor was jailed in Greece for setting a wildfire, media reports said Thursday.
The 66-year-old sociology professor at Panteion University in Athens was arrested Monday as a suspect in the wildfire that broke out in the southern suburb of Vari in June.
He denied the accusations, said news outlets and broadcasters.
The professor stressed that he was a resident of the area and insisted he was sitting at home when the wildfire broke out despite testimonies that claimed he did it.
The professor is believed to have taught at the police academy 15 years ago.
