A rocket fired by PKK/PYD terrorists from Syria's Afrin has landed near Kilis’s governorate building in southwestern Turkey on Saturday.

The rocket landed on the roof of a five-story building in the neighborhood of 7 December. Two were injured in the aftermath of the attack.

Security forces were deployed to the area to neutralize the unexploded rocket, as they evacuated and cordoned the area to prevent any civilian casualties in the case of an explosion.

The terrorist attack coincided with a high-profile visit to Kilis by Turkish officials including the Chief of the General Staff General Hulusi Akar, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and Justice Minister Abdulhamit Gül.

On Jan. 20, Turkey launched Operation Olive Branch to clear PYD/PKK and Daesh terrorists from Afrin, northwestern Syria.

According to the Turkish General Staff, the operation aims to establish security and stability along Turkish borders and the region as well as to protect the Syrian people from the oppression and cruelty of terrorists.

The operation is being carried out under the framework of Turkey’s rights based on international law, UN Security Council’s decisions, self-defense rights under the UN charter and respect for Syria's territorial integrity, it said.

Afrin has been a major hideout for the PYD/PKK since July 2012 when the Assad regime in Syria left the city to the terror group without putting up a fight.
