Military drills initiated by the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) on the Habur border between Turkey and Iraq early on Monday morning are continuing.
Mechanical diggers continued to excavate the land for the army to set up positions. Tanks conducted maneuvers in the designated area and then were stationed at various points.
The drills are being conducted three kilometers away from the border. Many military vehicles, mainly tanks, are participating in the drills.
Military sources said these would last until Sept. 26, a day after the planned referendum of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).
A statement by the General Staff said that the drills in the Silopi-Habour region would be conducted simultaneously to counterterrorism operations in the border area.
The area where the drills are being held is heavily guarded by soldiers from the Verimli Gendarmerie Headquarters.
