Turkish military vehicles and commando units were dispatched to the Syrian border in the Reyhanlı district of Hatay, as part of a deployment to the de-escalation zone in Syria’s Idlib.
Military mobilization has increased in Reyhanlı, where deployment will be carried out. Military vehicles, commando units, armored personnel carriers, heavy equipment and military ambulances from various cities of Turkey were dispatched to border posts.
Senior military officials visited the border posts where the units were dispatched.
The Turkish national anthem, various folk songs and heroic poems were played at the Cilvegözü border gate, located between Reyhanlı and Idlib. Many press members also visited the district in order to follow developments regarding the deployment.
Turkey, Russia and Iran declared a “de-escalation zone” in Idlib during the Syria peace talks held in Astana, Kazakhstan. Turkey is due to establish checkpoints and observation posts in the security zones which will constitute the borders of the de-escalation area in Idlib, according to the agreement. The principal task of the observer forces was defined as to prevent the occurrence of hostilities between the regime and the opposition as well as to monitor any ceasefire violations.
