President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron stressed the need to preserve the territorial integrity of both Syria and Iraq in a telephone conversation held on Saturday, according to presidential sources.

The two leaders also discussed taking steps to further develop bilateral relations between their respective countries, in addition to exchanging ideas over the latest developments in the region.

Idlib operation

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on Saturday "a serious operation" was beginning in Syria's Idlib and a Syrian opposition official stated that his group was preparing to enter the area with the backing of Turkish forces.

"The Free Syrian Army with support from Turkish troops is in full readiness to enter the area but until this moment there is no movement," Syrian opposition official said.

Erdoğan said last month that Turkey would deploy troops in Syria's northwest Idlib province as part of a de-escalation agreement brokered by Russia in August.
