'Gazzete,' published in both Turkish and English, sent to national, international media outlets via Turkish postal service
A civil society organization has sent out a special edition of a newspaper, which was published in memory of the journalists killed by Israel in Gaza, to national and international media outlets from Istanbul.
The Journalists' Solidarity for Palestine, made up of journalists working in both Turkish and international media, published the special edition of "Gazzete" dedicated to their colleagues who were killed while trying to bring the genocide in Gaza to the world's attention.
Members of the solidarity group gathered in front of the Grand Post Office in Istanbul's Sirkeci district to send copies of the newspaper to national and international media outlets, holding a banner that read: "Every journalist killed by Israel is a truth that is darkened."
Speaking on behalf of the group, Tuba Aydin Sel, a member of the Board of Directors of the Journalists' Solidarity for Palestine, said that even though Israel kills journalists, it cannot hide the truth.
Sel noted that it has been a year since the massacre in Gaza began, saying: "During this time, the world has witnessed the killing of thousands of people, including women, children, young and old, doctors, and journalists."
"The journalists documenting this massacre were targeted by the occupying Israeli forces. So far, 173 journalists have been killed while on duty," she said.
Amir Lafi, the president of the Palestinian Journalists' Association, for his part, said: "Since the start of this war, one of the main targets has been journalists.”
“The number of journalists killed, which we recorded as 173 yesterday, has now increased to 175," he said.
"These journalists were not killed while working in the field but in their homes, with their families. Some of our journalist friends, along with their families, have been completely erased from the population registry," he added.
Following the press statement, the newspaper, published in both Turkish and English with the headline "Every journalist killed is a truth that is darkened," was sent to national and international media outlets via the Turkish postal service, PTT.
Israel has continued its relentless offensive on the Gaza Strip following an attack by the Palestinian group Hamas last October, despite a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire.
Since then, nearly 42,000 people, mostly women and children, have been killed, with over 97,100 others injured, according to local health authorities.
The ongoing Israeli onslaught has displaced almost the entire population of the Gaza Strip, exacerbating shortages of food, clean water, and medicine due to a long-standing blockade.
Israel is currently facing genocide charges at the International Court of Justice over its actions in Gaza.
