Turkish security forces held nearly 1,000 undocumented migrants on Saturday as they were attempting to illegally cross the country’s borders, the military said on Sunday.
Border Guards arrested 881 people as they attempted to enter Turkey from the Syrian border, a daily report issued by the Turkish General Staff said.
In addition, 86 migrants were held while they were trying to illegally cross into Greece and four more were rounded up when they attempted to cross into Turkey, it added.
Nine others were also held at the Turkey-Bulgaria border.
At the border with Iran, nine people were detained while they were crossing into Turkey and two others were held as they were attempting to cross into Iran.
Turkey has been the main route for refugees trying to cross into Europe, especially since the beginning of the civil war in Syria.
