Israel's defense minister to meet with other ministers on Thursday to discuss the future of Gaza, potential alternative to Hamas' rule, according to Israeli media
Israeli government ministers are set to meet on Thursday to discuss the future of the Gaza Strip amid Tel Aviv's genocidal war on the enclave, local media reported on Wednesday.
According to the Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth, Defense Minister Israel Katz will meet with ministers to discuss Gaza's future and a potential alternative to the Palestinian group Hamas' rule in the enclave.
The Israeli Security Cabinet was scheduled to convene this week to discuss the situation in Gaza, but the meeting was postponed after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu underwent surgery.
Thursday's meeting will be held amid a stalemate in negotiations aimed at reaching a Gaza cease-fire and prisoner exchange deal with Hamas.
The Israeli army has continued a genocidal war on Gaza that has killed over 45,500 victims, mostly women and children, since a Hamas attack on Oct. 7, 2023 despite a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire.
In November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
