Turkey and BRICS countries ‘can act jointly with the aim of forming a fairer and objective international credit rating institution,’ says Erdoğan
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan addressed world leaders in South Africa at the tenth BRICS summit on Friday.
“We hope our Treasury and Finance Ministry’s membership talks with the BRICS New Development Bank are finalized soon. We can act jointly with the aim of forming a fairer and objective international credit rating institution through activities that occur within BRICS and in Turkey. We want to advance our existing cooperation with the BRICS countries in the field of energy,” Erdoğan said.
The BRICS regional bloc is made up of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, countries that share over 20 percent of the global economy and contribute around 17 percent to international trade.
Erdoğan’s attendance at the summit will serve as the first high-level contact between Turkey and the BRICS bloc.
