Turkey is set to cooperate with the U.S. on Syria in the future, according to a statement made by Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu at the Turkish-Saudi Coordination Council.
The statement comes after President Erdoğan held a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump last night, during which both leaders agreed to act together on Syria's al-Bab and Raqqa.
“We, as the regional countries and the countries in the coalition, can activate our special forces,” Çavuşoğlu said in a televised news conference with Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir. “We should do so.”
“The Raqqah operation should not be made with terrorist groups but [with] true partners,” Çavuşoğlu said. “Soon, I believe that we will defeat Daesh in Syria and Iraq.”
"We couldn't get our point across to the previous administration, which supported the terrorist PYD organization that should be treated in exactly the same way as Daesh, and that was extremely dangerous for Syria's future", read the statement.
Çavuşoğlu also pointed out that Turkey, along with the U.S., will cooperate for Syria's future, saying that it would make efforts in clearing Daesh from Syria and Iraq more effective.
