At least 40 Nepalis have died while fighting in the Russia-Ukraine war, a report said Monday.
The death toll among Nepalis fighting for the Russian side climbed to 40 as of Aug. 30, said the Kathmandu Post, citing the foreign ministry of the Himalayan nation.
“We are yet to determine where they are from. We have identified the youths, but not their hometowns,” said a source from the ministry. “We are working with the relevant authorities to obtain details.”
Tens of thousands of people have died since Russia launched its “special military operation” in Ukraine in February 2022.
Millions of others have been displaced.
Many foreigners have died fighting in the war, including from Nepal and India.
At least four Indian nationals recruited by the Russian army have been killed.
