Security Forces conducted both rural and urban operations against the separatist terrorists across Turkey, and neutralized 170 of them, while 604 others including pro-PKK HDP's mayors and heads were arrested
Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) neutralized roughly 170 PKK (Kurdistan Workers Party) terrorists in operations carried out around the clock and in both rural areas and cities during the last month of 2016.
Thus, TAF dealt a great blow to the subversive terrorist organization which indiscriminately targets civilians and even children.
On the other hand, 55 security personnel were martyred and 10 civilians, including elders and children, lost their lives in PKK's terrorist attacks throughout December, 2016.
Additionally, 57 wounded soldiers and 166 civilians are receiving medical treatment.
TAF responded to the terrorist attacks by conducting air and ground counter-terrorist operations both at home and abroad.
1,146 terror suspects were detained during the operations, intended to bring down the PKK and its youth organization in many Turkish cities in December.
Following the detentions, legal authorities probing into the terror charges issued arrest warrants for 604 people among the 1,146 suspects, including provincial heads of pro-PKK People's Democratic Party (HDP) and Democratic Regions Party (DBP) and their affiliated mayors.
TAF's anti-terror campaign in southeastern Turkey continues over rough terrain and under harsh winter conditions.
Medium and large scale operations were carried out in southeastern towns and provinces of Turkey which are Çukurca and Şemdinli in Hakkari province, Doğubeyazıt in Ağrı, Şırnak city, Faraşin, Bestler-Dereler, Beytüşşebap, Tunceli city, the region of Bali River, Sason in Batman, Bingöl city, Ortaçanak, Muş and Bitlis.
Lots of quasi-provincial heads of the PKK were killed and thus, deprived of their leaders, the terrorists have scattered.
The PKK, which is designated a terrorist group by Turkey, the United States and the European Union, had resumed its attacks across Turkey in July 2015 after breaking a two-year-long bold peace process initiated by Turkish state.
