Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim and Turkish President Erdogan plan to collaborate against global Islamophobia, aiming for a united approach.
Malaysian Prime Minister Dr. Anwar Ibrahim has revealed that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has proposed a collaborative initiative between the two nations to address the growing concern of Islamophobia on a global scale, as reported by the Malay Mail.
The envisioned collaboration seeks to amplify ongoing efforts aimed at countering the escalating issue of Islamophobia, with Erdogan advocating for a united approach to enhance effectiveness. Anwar confirmed his support for Erdogan's proactive approach, mentioning that he responded positively to the idea of collaboration. Details regarding the operational framework for this joint endeavor is anticipated to be outlined, with discussions potentially taking place in New York on the sidelines of the forthcoming United Nations assembly scheduled for September.
Anwar further elaborated on the genesis of this proposition, rooted in Malaysia's global standing and its demonstrated ability to engage with Western powers, particularly in instances involving religious sensitivities. Anwar emphasized, "What was our first reaction to (burning the Al-Quran), was to protest such an act." Malaysia's proactive engagement was further evident in initiatives such as the distribution of a million copies of the Al-Quran worldwide, including a notable dissemination of 15,000 copies in Swedish, serving as a robust countermeasure to such provocations.
