Opposition fighters, under the leadership of Jaish al-Fatah, say they are very close to completely breaking the regime's siege in Aleppo

Syria's moderate opposition has said that they are only a step away from breaking the regime siege of opposition-held areas in the Syrian province of Aleppo. The opposition said that the troops of the Bashar al-Assad regime will face an unexpected strike.

The opposition fighters also recalled their determination not to end the operation before the forces reach Aleppo center.

Assad regime forced moderate opposition to withdraw from a neighborhood of 3000 homes, while opposition seized Minyan village.

Meanwhile, the eastern part of Aleppo was reported to have fallen into ruin after the regime airstrikes.

The operation was initiated on October 28 under the leadership of Jaish al-Fatah as the opposition fighters continue to proceed to the city center from the west.

Aleppo is one of the critical areas that has been suffering from being caught up in the clashes between the moderate opposition and the Iranian- and Russian-backed Assad regime.

The region is especially significant due to its location of being only 50 kilometers from Turkish territory. More than 250,000 civilians are still living in Aleppo.

Opposition against Iran, Russia-backed regime

Russia became involved in the Syrian civil war in September of 2015, as the closest ally, and along with Iran, Russia is the biggest supporter of the Bashar regime of Syria.

Hundreds of thousands of people have been killed since the beginning of the five-year-long civil war in Syria.

The United Nations says more than 250,000 people have been killed since the beginning of the violence that turned into a civil war; however, the Syrian Center for Policy Research, an NGO, has put the total death toll from conflict at more than 470,000.
