Violations mostly committed by Assad regime and Iranian-backed militias, killing 95 civilians, including 24 children

The ceasefire announced in Syria late last month was violated 366 times, mostly by Assad's army and foreign terrorist militias that fight alongside it, according to a report published by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).

SOHR documented ceasefire violations by the regime and Iran-backed militias in provinces across the country, including 108 in Hama, 51 in Aleppo, 41 in Idlib, 37 in Homs, 22 in Deraa and 6 times in central Damascus, among others.

95 civlians, including 24 children, lost their lives as a result of these violations. In addition, 5 opposition fighters were killed.

The Assad regime, backed by Russian air forces, violated the ceasefire 43 times in the provinces of Idlib, Aleppo and Hama, according to the same report.

Meanwhile, the opposition have violated the ceasefire 8 times in total in the provinces of Aleppo and Hama.

SOHR called on Russia to pressure the Assad regime and its Iranian allies to abide by the ceasefire agreement following these violations.

The ceasefire between warring factions in Syria was sponsored by Turkey and Russia and came into effect on December 30 last year.

Turkey, Russia and Iran agreed on a three-way joint mechanism to monitor the Syrian ceasefire violations during the International Meeting on Syrian Settlement that took place in the Kazakh capital of Astana on 23- 24 January.
