Omar Al-Bashir charged in death of Dr. Babikir Abdul Hamid who died in January

The Attorney General of Sudan charged former President Omar Al-Bashir with the involvement of killing protesters during demonstrations before the army ousted the former leader.

A statement from the Attorney General's office on Monday said Bashir was charged in the case of Dr. Babikir Abdul Hamid who died in January.

Meanwhile, eight protesters were injured in clashes with Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia backing the Sudanese Army, the Central Committee of Sudanese Doctors said in another statement on Monday.

The doctors' group confirmed the injuries occurred during an attempt by the army and the RSF to break-up a sit-in in front of the Sudanese National Army headquarters.

Clashes have taken place since Monday around the area of the sit-in, according to witnesses.

“The army and RSF have attacked us and used the violence to break-up the barricades around the sit-in area including the bridge of Kober and Blue Nile as well as the Nile street and around Khartoum University,” one protester told Anadolu Agency.

Demonstrators have continued with sit-ins since Bashir’s was removed from office April 11 and are demanding the hand over of power from a military council to civil authority.
