Suspect arrested and there is currently no evidence of a terrorist-motivated attack, say police
Several people were injured in a knife attack in Berlin on Tuesday after a mentally disturbed man tried to randomly stab people on the sidewalk, according to local media reports.
An unidentified number of the victims were taken to hospital, a police spokeswoman said as emergency services were alerted shortly before 12:00 p.m. to the crime scene in front of a supermarket in Berlin's Charlottenburg district.
The suspected attacker was arrested and he was being interrogated, the spokeswoman added.
According to the B.Z. newspaper, several passers-by pounced on the attacker and overwhelmed him as he tried to stab people. Police said there is currently no evidence of a terrorist-motivated attack.
Authorities have reportedly begun their investigation into the incident.
