Sergei Shoigu travelled to Pyongyang on instructions from President Vladimir Putin, says Russian news agency TASS
Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu arrived in Pyongyang to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the Russian news agency TASS reported Wednesday.
Shoigu travelled to North Korea on instructions from President Vladimir Putin and is expected to hold talks with Kim, according to the news agency.
The visit comes amid rumors that Kim might travel to Russia for a summit with Putin to mark the first anniversary of their mutual defense treaty signed last June, according to Yonhap News Agency.
The agreement has since resulted in North Korea deploying thousands of troops to support Russia in its war with Ukraine.
