As the Syrian opposition currently overseas only 8.6 sq km, and the regime has regained 98 percent of the city's territory, Aleppo seems to be shaking on its last legs

Free Syrian Army (FSA) fighters, struggling against the Assad regime and its supporters in Aleppo, had to give up 4 more districts recently. Around 100,000 people were reportedly stuck within a 8.6-sq-km area, while 100,000 others vacated the opposition-held districts.

Opponents withdrew from the Sheik Said, Firdevs and Salehin districts on Monday, due to the regime's intense assault last night.

In the current situation, the land held by the opposition has been reduced to 8.6 sq km from 15.

'Around 100,000 civilians got stuck under the brutal siege'

“More and more people are moving to regime-held districts. As early as yesterday, about 2,000 people left this quarter. Around 100,000 civilians got stuck under the brutal siege. They are struggling to survive without food, water and electricity," stated, Nacib Ansari, the head of civil defense in Aleppo, in a recording.

Russian Defense Ministry stated today that the Assad regime captured more than 95 percent of territory in Aleppo, once the largest city of Syria, adding that since the clashes have reignited on Nov. 15, more than 2,000 opponents surrendered and over 100,000 civilians left the area.

Last of the Aleppo residents in besieged areas expect basic assurances

While some civilians remained in districts which have been taken by the Assad's soldiers, some others are allowed to leave through some specific roads, assigned by the regime. However, it is still not obvious where the regime is taking the families.

Other civilians in besieged areas expect basic assurances such as life safety, freedom, travelling to safe places, integrity of their families and so on.

The regime, assisted by Shiite militias and Russia, killed 991 civilians and wounded thousands through airstrikes, shelling and ground operations since Nov. 15.

The Free Syrian Army gained control of the eastern sector of the city in 2012, a year after the uprising began and retained the city incessantly up until now.

The fall of Aleppo would deal the biggest blow to the moderate opposition of Syria by leaving the regime in control of the 5 largest cities of the country.
