Conducting another election in Istanbul would eliminate doubts over the March 31 results, Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said on Tuesday, hours after the ruling AK Party said it would appeal for a re-run of the city's local vote.
Earlier, an AKP official said the party will demand a new vote in the city over irregularities that directly affected the outcome.
Millions of Turkish voters cast their votes nationwide on March 31 in the local elections to choose Turkey’s mayors, city council members, mukhtars (neighborhood officials), and members of elder councils for the next five years.
