Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber Al Sabah on Monday accepted the resignation of the government amid an ongoing crisis between the cabinet and parliament.
The move came shortly after Prime Minister Jaber Mubarak Al Sabah offered to tender his government’s resignation days after parliamentarians grilled a handful of ministers for alleged financial mismanagement.
The emir has asked government ministers to remain at their posts until a new government can be drawn up.
Last week, lawmakers questioned Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and Acting Information Minister Mohammed al-Abdullah Al Sabaha amid allegations of financial mismanagement by the latter.
Monday’s resignation comes less than one year after the current government was formed.
