Japan will demolish a nearly completed condo in western Tokyo after residents complained it blocked the view of Mount Fuji, the builder said on Monday.
Osaka-based developer Seksiui notified the municipal government of its decision to cancel the project and demolish the 10-story, 18-unit building in the city of Kunitachi, located in the western part of the Tokyo Prefecture, Kyodo News reported.
Sekisui admitted that it did not adequately consider local values, despite lowering the building's height and holding meetings with residents.
Earlier, a large black screen was erected in another town in the country to discourage tourists from taking pictures of Mount Fuji from the sidewalk.
