Residents of Kirkuk began leaving the city following the increasing conflicts
The Iraqi army reportedly seized the region where the Peshmerga statue is located and the statue itself, as they continue to advance in Kirkuk. The statue, erected in July, is located near the gate to the Kirkuk province in the north.
Iraqi forces on Monday seized a Kirkuk airport and a K-1 military air base.
Thousands of people are fleeing Kirkuk to Erbil due to the conflict between the Iraqi army and Peshmerga forces in the city.
Some of the families living in Kirkuk are packing their belongings and trying to escape the chaos. The Iraqi army, launching an operation in Kirkuk after three years to return to the city, captured K-1 military air base, which has strategic importance. They also seized many official buildings in Kirkuk, including the Police Department and Kirkuk Governor’s Office.
