Greece on Thursday reiterated the call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza to end the “unprecedented humanitarian crisis.”

Speaking to press upon arrival to meeting of EU Council in Brussels, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said: “I will reiterate the Greek government's consistent position that now is the time to bring back to the public debate the issue of a ceasefire, an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, with the simultaneous release of all hostages stop this unprecedented humanitarian crisis.”

Commenting on situation in the Middle East, where a 12-day war between Iran and Israel halted this week after US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire, Mitsotakis underlined the need for a diplomatic solution to Iran's nuclear program.

He also maintained that Greece has been experiencing a spike in migrant arrivals to its soil from Libya.

“I will have the opportunity to inform my colleagues about the significant increase in migratory flows from eastern Libya and to request the support of the European Commission, so that this issue can be addressed immediately,” Mitsotakis said.

He said Athens once again will raise the Turkish-Libya maritime delimitation agreement and its objections to it during the summit, and seek for strong European support.
