Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Ömer Çelik criticizes German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel for “copying” far-rightists and racists when giving his speeches

Turkey’s EU Affairs Minister Ömer Çelik on Wednesday said German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel “copies” far-rightists and racists in his remarks. Çelik made his statements on his Twitter account.

“German Foreign Minister’s statements about our President [Recep Tayyip Erdoğan] has gone beyond all reason. It should be thought-provoking for Germany too that the foreign minister of a state such as Germany would sink so low as to make such statements.

Gabriel is the one who knows best that his statements regarding Turkey are false. Gabriel does not make authentic statements. He speaks by ‘copying’ from far-rightists and racists. We are aware of the reason why far-right, fascist and anti-Islam groups bear hostility toward Turkey and our president. It is significant that the German foreign minister speaks at a ‘copy-paste,’ level by plagiarizing far-right and racist groups.

They assume that they practice politics with irrational remarks such as ‘We stand by Turkey, but we are against the President.’

What they do proves that they are trapped under the spectrum of the far-rightists. If they want to talk about human rights, they should first consider their treatment of the refugees. The Republic of Turkey and the president are one and the same. It is not Gabriel’s duty to evaluate these issues.

It would backfire if they were to attempt to compensate the loss of votes in their internal politics by attacking Turkey.

You don’t gain votes by copying racists. It is ironical that Gabriel reminds us about fundamental values. On the contrary, he should remind the people around him about these values."
