Turkey’s new domestic hybrid locomotive was showcased on Wednesday at a leading international transport technology fair in German capital, a co-production company said.
In a written statement, Turkish Locomotive and Engine Company Inc (TULOMSAS) said the locomotive was displayed at the International Trade Fair for Transport Technology (InnoTrans) in Berlin.
The locomotive is a joint product of TULOMSAS, Turkish State Railways (TCDD) and Turkey's leading defense company Aselsan, it stated.
TULOMSAS produced the locomotive at its own facilities, the statement added.
For the first time, the project features Turkey as the fourth country that has the technology to design and produce a domestic hybrid locomotive as such across the world.
Turkish State Railways (TCDD) will also be one of the first railway operators to use a environment-friendly hybrid locomotive.
The locomotive -- which has a modern-outlook, ergonomic console design, and wide-visual angle -- will save 40 percent on fuel with its hybrid technology.
The four-day fair will end on Friday.
