Bayern Munich's Philipp Lahm quits Germany after World Cup triumph

German national team captain Philipp Lahm retired from international football on Friday.

According to German media it was reported that Lahm wanted to quit the national squad after the side's World Cup victory.

However, the 30-year-old Bayern Munich full-back's decision has still been regarded as a surprise by some sports pundits.

The Bundesliga giants also announced Lahm's decision on their official Twitter account.

Having made his international debut 10 years ago, Lahm has been capped 113 times for Germany.

Lahm has a contract with the Bavarian club until 2018
