Governor Jim Justice, Florida Senate Majority among many guilty of gaffes as US military service marks 233 years since founding
Several US lawmakers, governors and institutions wished the country's coast guard a happy birthday Friday as the military service marked 223 years since its establishment but used images of Turkish Coast Guard vessels to do so.
"Happy 233rd Birthday to the United States Coast Guard!" West Virginia Governor Jim Justice posted on X, the website formerly known as Twitter, with a photoshopped image of a Turkish Coast Guard ship attached. Several users reacted to the governor's post, saying the image was of a Turkish Coast Guard vessel.
The official X account of Florida Senate Republicans made the same mistake, using another image of a Turkish Coast Guard ship in a post.
"Bad photoshop," one X user said in response. "How does the person managing your Twitter account still have a job?" another user asked.
Representative Eric Burlison, the Republican representative of Missouri's seventh district, also appeared to have made the same error in a since-deleted post.
The FBI Agents Association and a private insurance company also used images of a Turkish Coast Guard vessel as they sought to laud the US Coast Guard.
