Flight restriction mandatory for 'flight safety, national security, and security of president,' says Gen. Gregory Guillot

US fighter jets intercepted another aircraft near US President Donald Trump's Bedminster, New Jersey, golf club on Sunday, marking the 11th unauthorized incursion into restricted airspace this weekend.

North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) said its aircraft intercepted a general aviation aircraft that violated Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) airspace over Bedminster at approximately 1430GMT.

"This morning's intercept, followed by two later TFR violations, brings the total to 11 unauthorized incursions into restricted airspace this weekend," NORAD stated.

The civilian aircraft was "safely escorted out of the area by NORAD aircraft," it said.

Gen. Gregory Guillot, NORAD and US Northern Command Commander, warned that the "excessive number of TFR violations this weekend indicates some civil aviators are not reading Notice to Airmen, or NOTAMs (Notice to Airmen), before each flight as required by the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration)."

"NORAD armed fighter aircraft will intercept and guide offending aircraft out of the TFR," Guillot said, emphasizing that the procedures are mandatory for "flight safety, national security, and the security of the president."
