'We do commend the very swift action that they took,' State Department says after Austria canceled concerts, arrested 2 suspects

The US is in touch with the Austrian government amid reports of a planned terror threat at a Taylor Swift concert, the State Department said Thursday.

“We do commend the very swift action that they took to disrupt what could have quite obviously been a very serious incident,” State Department spokesman Matthew Miller told reporters.

He said he would leave Austria to speak to the details of the investigation.

“Obviously, the safety and security of Americans overseas is our number one priority. We have been in contact with the Austrian government about this matter. As a general case, we do share information with our allies and partners about terrorism activities, just as they share information with us,” said Miller.

Swift's concerts in Vienna were canceled this week after two suspects were arrested in Ternitz in eastern Austria who allegedly pledged allegiance to the Daesh/ISIS terror group in a video weeks ago.

Austrian Police said Wednesday that the alert level in Austria “remains high.”
