Amid discussions on operations against Daesh in Syria and Iraq; Ash Carter is visiting Turkey meeting Turkish leaders
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan received U.S. Secretary of Defense Ashton B. Carter at the Presidential Complex in Ankara on Friday.
Ash Carter is paying an official visit to Turkey, aiming at discussing three significant issues; the ongoing Euphrates Shield, the Mosul operation and the possible operation for Raqqa.
Carter, first met his Turkish counterpart Fikri Işık in the Turkish capital, Ankara.
The tete a tete between Işık and Carter was closed to the press and lasted 45 minutes.
Mosul was the primary topic of the meeting, according to the sources.
Carter will also be hosted by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım.
After Turkey, Carter will head to the United Arab Emirates for meetings with Emirati leaders.
On Monday, October 24, Secretary Carter travels to Paris where on Tuesday he will co-host the latest meeting of defense ministers from the countries contributing the most to the Counter-Daesh coalition.
