Planned release is part of 42-day phase one of cease-fire agreement brokered between Israel and Hamas and announced Wednesday

The release of Israeli hostages held in Gaza is scheduled to begin at 4 pm local time (1400GMT) on Sunday, Israeli Channel 12 reported.

Under the newly reached Israel-Hamas cease-fire, the hostage exchange process is set to begin with a 42-day first phase, during which 33 Israeli hostages will be released in seven batches. The first batch, including three hostages, is scheduled for Sunday.

The Israeli government has yet to confirm the exact start date for the exchange.

The Israeli Security Cabinet is expected to approve the agreement on Friday followed by the full government's ratification.

Once approved, the Israeli Justice Ministry will publish the names of Palestinian prisoners included in the exchange to allow Israelis to file objections with the Supreme Court.

However, the court typically rejects such objections in prisoner exchange cases.

Simultaneous with the release of Israeli hostages, Israel will release hundreds of Palestinian detainees from its prisons, including some serving life sentences.

The planned release is part of a cease-fire agreement brokered between Israel and Palestinian group Hamas announced on Wednesday.

Qatar announced the deal aiming to end over 15 months of deadly Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, killing nearly 47,000 people and injuring over 110,000.

Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said the three-phase deal will go into effect Sunday.

The deal includes a prisoner exchange and sustained calm, aiming for a permanent truce and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
