Move aims to boost export capacity, strengthen Türkiye's position in global steel market

Turkish steel producer Saritas Celik Sanayi has launched a major investment in an integrated stainless steel facility in the western city of Yalova, aiming to expand Türkiye's export capacity and reduce dependency on imported materials.

The facility, located in the Machinery Specialized Organized Industrial Zone, will be developed in four phases and is expected to reach full capacity by 2030.

According to the company, the investment will support a production capacity of 800,000 tons annually and generate 1,200 jobs.

Construction of the first two phases, which include cold rolling operations, is underway and slated for completion in 2027. These phases will provide 400,000 tons in annual output and create 500 new jobs.

A hot rolling plant will follow in 2028, increasing total production and employment to 700 workers. By 2030, Saritas plans to launch an on-site melting facility, integrating the entire process from raw steel to finished product.

Engineering work for the facility incorporates energy efficiency, automation, digital traceability and recycling. Saritas said the plant is designed to meet both production and environmental targets, aligning with Türkiye's green goals.

Saritas also operates a processing center in the Gebze Organized Industrial Zone, employing 350 people with a 750,000-ton capacity. This center will continue operations alongside the new plant.

The company provides value-added services such as slitting, cutting, grinding, painting and surface treatments for various industrial clients.

- ‘Industrial sovereignty lies in integrated facilities'

Ercument Saritas, chairman of Saritas Celik, described the project as a strategic step toward industrial independence.

“This integrated facility investment in Yalova OSB is not just an increase in capacity but a significant move to strengthen Türkiye's domestic and national production power in stainless steel, reduce foreign dependency, and enhance a high value-added industrial model,” he said.

He said the plant will enable full control of production using local resources and meet both domestic and international demand.

“Industrial sovereignty lies in integrated facilities that process their own raw materials. We advance with this vision.”

He noted Saritas' 65-year history in the sector, saying its exports have reached 74 countries.

“This investment not only strengthens our production capabilities but also enhances Türkiye's global reputation,” he added.

Saritas Celik supplies industries including white goods, automotive, energy and defense, and sees its growth strategy as rooted in production, investment and industrial partnerships.
