Tanja Fajon on 2-day visit to Turkish capital, including joint economic commission meeting
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with Slovenia's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon in the capital Ankara on Monday.
During his meeting with Fajon, who is in Türkiye on the occasion of the 9th meeting of the Türkiye-Slovenia Joint Economic Commission (JEC), Fidan underlined developments in ties between the two countries within the framework of their 2024-2026 Strategic Partnership Action Plan, said Foreign Ministry sources.
During the meeting, Türkiye highlighted its commitment to strengthening bilateral trade and economic cooperation. Additionally, the importance of realizing the untapped potential for defense industry collaboration was stressed..
Dialogue remains the only viable solution to address the challenges in the Balkans, it was underlined. Türkiye also conveyed steps needed to achieve tangible progress in its relations with the European Union, which Slovenia joined in 2004.
The Turkish side shared its vision for the future of post-Assad Syria, reiterating the importance of international support to address the country's challenges and ensure stability in the region.
The need to establish a permanent cease-fire in Gaza as soon as possible as well to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid were also highlighted.
Additionally, Fajon inaugurated the exhibition “The Marie Curies of the Mediterranean” at Middle East Technical University in Ankara, one of Türkiye's top state universities. The exhibit features women scientists and researchers from 22 countries, including 19 Mediterranean ones.
During her two-day visit, Fajon is also scheduled to meet Trade Minister Omer Bolat and attend the 9th Türkiye-Slovenia Joint Economic Commission session with Youth and Sports Minister Osman Askin Bak.
Türkiye recognized Slovenia on Feb. 6, 1992, shortly after its independence in 1991. Embassies were established in the capitals Ljubljana in 1993 and Ankara in 1996. A strategic partnership declaration in 2011 further enhanced ties, leading to expanded cooperation across various sectors.
