Turkish security forces neutralized Musa Çetiner, who was a senior Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) operative responsible for the Dersim district of Turkey’s Tunceli province, the Interior Ministry said on Thursday.
Çetiner was on the ministry’s red wanted list, and had a bounty of 4 million Turkish lira on his head. The Interior Ministry has categorized terrorists into different categories – red, blue, green, orange and gray – depending on their threat level for the country.
The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the European Union and the United States. The PKK has been conducting armed violence in the southeastern part of Turkey since 1984. More than 40,000 people, mostly civilians, have been killed in the three-decade long conflict.
