'They could be a Great Country, but they first must completely give up hopes of obtaining a Nuclear Weapon,' president says

US President Donald Trump said Thursday that his administration is committed to diplomatic engagement with Iran over its nuclear program as tensions escalate between Tehran and Israel.

"We remain committed to a Diplomatic Resolution to the Iran Nuclear Issue!" Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

He said his entire administration has been directed to negotiate with Tehran, emphasizing Iran's potential while demanding nuclear concessions.

"They could be a Great Country, but they first must completely give up hopes of obtaining a Nuclear Weapon," he said.

The next round of US-Iran talks is scheduled for Sunday in Muscat, Oman's capital, with Iran's uranium enrichment program remaining the primary focus.

Washington demands that Iran halt enrichment completely, while Iranian negotiators maintain the program is non-negotiable and will continue regardless of any deal.

Trump also acknowledged Thursday that a potential Israeli strike on Iran "could very well happen," warning of a possible "massive conflict."

"Well, I don't want to say imminent, but it looks like it's something that could very well happen," he said, emphasizing his preference to avoid broader regional warfare while pursuing nuclear negotiations.
