Thousands of Kurds have streamed out of Diyarbakır to celebrate the festival of Newroz that marks the arrival of Spring, March 21.
The celebrations have been held by Democratic Society Congress, or DTK at Newroz Park in the southeastern province's Bağlar town.
Newroz means New Year in the Persian language and marks the solar New Year which is also celebrated in Iran, Afghanistan and Iraq.
The Kurdish party said there is a huge crowd, which emerged from the nearby towns and provinces and abroad, and which appeared in the venue in the predominantly Kurdish city, since early Saturday.
The Newroz celebrations in 2014 are expected to be unprecedented in terms of the attendees who are eager to speak of peace and democracy on this day.
Many have already gathered to rejoice by chanting and singing songs with music,but the crowd will surge forward cheering as in the previous years.
Kurds have wriggled through police check points before they were let in the park.
