Local reports suggest Florida is their likely destination, while prosecutors say they will be required to return to Romania later this month

Andrew and Tristan Tate have departed Romania for the United States by private jet after being barred from leaving the country for over two years, sources told the BBC on Thursday.

The Tate brothers, who still face serious criminal charges in Romania, including rape, human trafficking, and money laundering, reportedly flew out of the capital Bucharest, with local media reports suggesting that Florida is their likely destination.

Despite their departure, the Tates' legal troubles remain unresolved.

Prosecutors in Romania have stated that the Tates will be required to return to Romania later this month to comply with the terms of their ongoing legal status.

The Romanian Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism issued a statement confirming that the investigation into the Tates is still active and their request to drop the charges has been denied.

The prosecutors clarified that while their request to leave Romania has been accepted, the preventive judicial measures remain in effect.

They continue to face separate charges in the United Kingdom and an additional case in Florida.

Earlier this month, Romanian Foreign Minister Emil Hurezeanu said during an interview that Richard Grenell, a special envoy for US President Trump, had brought up the Tates' case during a conversation at the Munich Security Conference, which took place on Feb. 14-16.

While Hurezeanu said he did not view Grenell's approach as “pressure,” Grenell told The Financial Times that their conversation was not substantive conversation, but added: “I support the Tate brothers as evident by my publicly available tweets.”

Andrew Tate, a British American social media influencer who has proudly described himself as a misogynist, and his brother were arrested in Romania in 2022 and charged the following year with a scheme that involved exploiting seven Romanian women, seducing them and holding them against their will while filming them engaging in sex acts and selling the footage online.

The Tates have denied the charges.
