Interior Ministry says explosive devices seized from detained Hezbollah member

Syria said Sunday that its security forces had arrested a Hezbollah operative planning attacks in the central city of Homs.

An Interior Ministry statement said the Hezbollah member was apprehended in a preemptive security operation following surveillance and tracking efforts.

The ministry said several smuggled ready-to-use explosive devices were seized from his possession.

There was no comment from Hezbollah on the Syrian statement.

Bashar al-Assad, Syria's leader for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia in December, ending the Baath Party regime, which had been in power since 1963.

A new transitional administration led by President Ahmad al-Sharaa was formed in Syria in January.
