Students chant anti-Israel slogans in front of medical faculty in Idlib city center

Students in northwestern Syria demonstrated in support of Palestine as part of student movements worldwide backing the resistance in the Gaza Strip.

They chanted anti-Israel slogans and carried banners that read: "From Idlib to Gaza, our enemy is one", "All free people of the world who stand with Gaza against the killing machine are honorable", "Do not lose your morale because Allah sees everything" and "Gaza is still being bombed, Gaza is still suffering from hunger, Gaza is still dying" as students gathered in front of the medical faculty in the city center of Idlib.

Muhammad Abdulmajid, a third-year student at the Faculty of Medicine at Idlib University, told Anadolu they organized the demonstration to show solidarity with the people of Gaza because of the ongoing massacre which has lasted more than 200 days.

"The massacre has been going on for over 50 years,” said Abdulmajid.

“For the past 13 years, the people of Idlib have experienced comparable hardship inflicted by Russia, Iran, and the Bashar Assad regime, mirroring the suffering endured by the people of Gaza,” he said.

Israel has waged a relentless offensive on the Palestinian enclave since an Oct. 7 cross-border attack by Hamas, which killed less than 1,200 people.

More than 34,500 Palestinians have since been killed and over 76,000 injured amid mass destruction and shortages of necessities. Israel has imposed a crippling blockade on the Gaza Strip, leaving its population, particularly residents of northern Gaza, on the verge of starvation.

Israel is accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which in January issued an interim ruling that ordered Tel Aviv to stop genocidal acts and take measures to guarantee that humanitarian assistance is provided to civilians in Gaza.
