Operations carried out across 12 provinces, 9 suspects are soldiers who were on active duty

At least 13 people with suspected links to the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETÖ), the group behind the 2016 defeated coup in Turkey, were arrested on Friday, a security source said.

The suspects – nine of them soldiers on active duty – were taken into custody after warrants were issued by prosecutors in the central Konya province.

They were arrested in simultaneous operations across 12 provinces, said the source, who requested anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

FETÖ and its US-based leader Fetullah Gulen orchestrated the defeated coup on July 15, 2016, in which 251 people were martyred and nearly 2,200 injured.

Turkey accuses FETÖ of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary.
