Qatar, Egypt attempts to sow discord between them will not succeed

Qatar and Egypt said Wednesday that their mediation efforts are ongoing and consistent, based on a unified vision to end the unprecedented humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip and foster the necessary conditions to reach a comprehensive ceasefire.

In a joint statement, the two countries stressed that attempts to sow discord between Doha and Cairo through the casting of doubt, distortion, or media escalation will not succeed, nor will they deter them from pursuing their joint efforts to end the war in Gaza and the resulting humanitarian catastrophe there.

“Qatar and Egypt will not be drawn into any internal dynamics or secondary agendas that do not serve the interests of the brotherly Palestinian people,” the statement said.

The two nations renewed their unwavering commitment to a clear framework focused on alleviating suffering, promoting de-escalation, and working toward a lasting resolution.

Qatar and Egypt affirmed that they are closely coordinating with the US to reach an agreement to end the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza and ensure the protection of civilians.

Qatar and Egypt, along with the US, have been mediating to reach a ceasefire in Gaza to end a brutal Israeli onslaught that has killed more than 52,600 people since October 2023, mostly women and children.

Since March 2, Israel has kept Gaza's crossings closed to food, medical, and humanitarian aid, deepening an already humanitarian crisis in the enclave, according to government, human rights, and international reports.

According to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA), hundreds of thousands of Palestinians eat only one meal every two or three days amid Israel's crippling blockade.

Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
