A suspect was arrested and 1,730 historical artifacts recovered in an operation in Istanbul, a security source said on Monday.

A raid was carried out in Umraniye district after a tip-off, said the source, requesting anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

The recovered items include 774 objects believed to be from the Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman periods, 532 marine fossils from the Paleolithic era, 50 wedges and knives, and 374 coins from the Ottoman era.
