Turkish security forces seized a total of 13,035 kilograms (28,737 pounds) of cannabis during anti-drug operations in Istanbul province in the first nine months of 2019, the provincial governor said on Thursday.
In a Twitter post, Ali Yerlikaya shared a nine-month data of anti-drug operations conducted by Turkish police and gendarmerie in Istanbul.
"The fight against drugs in Istanbul continues unabated. The number of people arrested in the police zone increased by 9%, and the amount of drugs seized increased by 61%. The number of people arrested in the gendarmerie zone increased by 146%, and the amount of seized drugs increased by 47%,” Yerlikaya said.
