A key figure in Turkey’s July 15 coup attempt perpetrated by the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETÖ) was seen in Germany. Fugitive Adil Öksüz was FETÖ’s “Air Force imam;” a term used to describe Gülen’s various key figures who convey instructions they and other FETÖ terrorists heed.
Öksüz was captured on July 16 near the Akıncı Base during a gendarmerie control. Öksüz, who was taken into custody, said he had come to look at land to buy.
While 99 of the 100 putschist suspects Öksüz was with were arrested, he was the only one who was released by decision of judicial control. Despite being identified as the “Air Force imam,” Öksüz was taken to the Sincan courthouse instead of the Ankara Police Station, and his file was hidden from investigating authorities. Öksüz’s cell phone and GPS device were returned to him instead of being seized, and the ruling to arrest him only came after he was released.
Öksüz traveled from Ankara to Istanbul on July 18, and from there he traveled to Sakarya. The FETÖ fugitive is still at large.
It has not yet been determined whether Öksüz went overseas. According to reports by the Milliyet daily, Öksüz could potentially be in Germany.
According to a document dated Feb. 17, sent by the Ministry of Justice to the Directorate General of International Law and External Relations to Intelligence and Terrorism Departments, MİT and Ankara’s Public Prosecutor, businessman M.M. who came from Ukraine to Germany got into contact with the Consulate General of Frankfurt and greeted the wife and three children of an acquaintance known to be linked to FETÖ at the Global Hotel in Frankfurt. Meanwhile, Adil Öksüz was seen with a bond bag at the hotel.
Sadat Kiymet, who was in charge of the Election Coordination Center in the task force of the Consulate General of the AK Party during the same period, said that he shared a similar experience when he met with Consul Özkan Durmaz on Feb. 16.
According to another document dated Apr. 5, witness T.E. on Mar. 30 called the Ministry of Justice’s General Directorate of International Law and External Relations and said he lived in the German city of Ausburg. He said that he went to a FETÖ member’s restaurant in the city of Ulm for a vending machine repair where he heard chatter that Adil Öksüz had come to Ulm, also the arrangement of a hotel was discussed and that he had personally seen Adil Öksüz at a railway station.
T.E. also reported that Adil Öksüz went to the İdlis Hotel in Bahnhof in a large group and stayed there for a few weeks, but he did not see him during his stay. T.E. informed German Interpol and also provided detailed information to the German police.
